Last week Magnum Photos and IdeasTap announced the 9 finalists of its annual Photographic Award, at a reception and exhibition hosted by Mother.
This year’s judging panel, chaired by IdeasTap chairman Peter De Haan, included: Stuart Franklin, Magnum photographer; Ben Edwards, photographer and MA Photojournalism course leader at the University of Westminster; Amy Christian, Stories, Film and Photography Project Manager at Oxfam; Fiona Rogers, Cultural and Education Manager at Magnum Photos and Emma Bowkett, Photo Editor at the Financial Times FT Weekend Magazine.
The judges reviewed both exhibition edits and 'dream project' briefs submitted by the 18 shortlisted photographers, before choosing which three from each age group would go through to the next round.
Each finalist now receives £1,500 to shoot their dream project. They will also create a Magnum in Motion multimedia essay and attend a second mentoring session with a Magnum photographer. Ultimately, one winner from each age group will be awarded a £5,000 prize and the two younger photographers will do paid internships with Magnum Photos.
