US Authorities Deport Former Salvadoran General

Former Defense Minister of El Salvador, General Carlos Eugenio Vides Casanova, has lost his appeal to remain in the United States. The US Court of Appeals found that Casanova was responsible for, or involved in, torture and extrajudicial killing during the 1980s Salvadoran Civil War.
This important decision sets precedence for reviewing immigration cases where the applicant is suspected of having participated in human rights violation.
