Torture

December 10, 2014
by Magnum Photographers
Exploring conflict around the world since 1947, Magnum photographers have, throughout the decades, often encountered the deplorable things that lie in darkest corners of a war. Specifically, photographers have always made an effort to capture the injustices of torture, to bear witness to the practice's brutal aftermaths and manifestations. Given the recent revelations concerning the American Central Intelligence Agency's use of torture in the years following the attacks of September 11th, here is a presentation of images from the Magnum archive that illustrate the tragic ubiquity of torture practices, and of course, their tragic consequences. Warning: Some imagery is graphic.
