Magnum Photos, The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and Taikoo Li Sanlitun are presenting for the first time to the public a photography and video commission started in 2013 with the work of Alessandra Sanguinetti, Alex Majoli, Jonas Bendiksen, Olivia Arthur and Gueorgui Pinkhassov.

The authors have engaged in a collaborative effort to interpret and translate five sets of actions into an impression of the fundamental societal shifts that are impacting our collective future.

The exhibition, through a combination of documentary photography and immersive media, seeks to provide insights into five massive changes that will transform the world over the next 20 years: the explosive growth of the middle class in the developing world, the rapid increase in the number of people acquiring postsecondary degrees, the vast changes in the use of resources worldwide, the continuing acceleration of digital and physical connectivity, and the dramatic rise of market and societal turbulence.

Curated by leading British photographer Martin Parr, five renowned Magnum photographers documented the personal, human impact of these conditions in 10 locations on five continents: Alessandra Sanguinetti in Bogota and Silicon Valley, Alex Majoli in Lagos, Abu Dhabi and Doha, Jonas Bendiksen in Istanbul and Stockholm, Olivia Arthur in Mumbai and Shanghai, Gueorgui Pinkhassov in Jakarta and Seoul.

The exhibition, conceptualised and designed by Kram/Weisshaar, is structured around an immersive "media chamber" with floor to ceiling projections that put the viewer in the shoes of the Magnum photographers by combining live video captured from their cameras as they work, along with their final still images. Dynamic 4D Diagrams created by the designers reveal the raw data underlying each of the five key global conditions motivating the exhibition as they play out over the next 20 years. An "investigative table" with oversized books allows the visitor to deep-dive into the visual and tactile research undertaken by the creative team at the core of the exhibition. Lastly, a set of final, museum-grade prints of the refined photographic result is presented.

Taken as a whole, this exhibition presents a visceral, experiential snapshot of the world at a moment of intense change.
