The photographers

Antoine D’Agata

This workshop revolves around photography as a means for asserting a personal perception of the world. Looking beyond the purely documentary, images making up a diary or inventory allow their inventor to cut free from the constraints underlying the transcription of objective reality.
Antoine d’Agata's concern is to pare down the photographic act to the need to recount ordinary or extreme experiences. Each participant will be asked to examine the ultimate goal of his approach, to play an active part in his own images, and to work on the texture of reality.

Since images, like words, only take on meaning when brought together, the workshop will focus on finding the most relevant form for each individual stance.

Working with Antoine d’Agata, participants must be ready to photograph intensively throughout the workshop and to extend the limits of their approach. They will have to confront their obsessions and contradictions as they shape a series of images conveying in real or fictional terms their private relationship with the world.

Patrick Zachmann

During the course of the five days, I will talk deeply about photography, the choice of the subject, the "right" distance to find, the point of view, the composition, the ethic, how to approach the people, the form to choose to serve the content, the editing process, the story telling…

We'll analyse together the difficulties faced on the field, review how to solve them and understand how to combine the intention of the photographer with the result.

During my workshops, I alternate screen projections of my work (photographic series, web-docs or video movies) with portfolios reviews of the participants’ works. Two days will be devoted to the shooting sessions after having discussed the subject of each photographer and tips given.

According to me, a photographer should dedicate most of his time before and after the shooting. Like in a movie making process. Thinking about one's subject, one's approach and doing the editing (selection) of the pictures are as important as being on the field.

This workshop will try to help the participants to develop his or her personal vision and world.

Nikos Economopoulos

For both amateurs and professional, the workshop is aim to who enjoy combining photography with the joy of the journey. The challenge is to bring out each photographer’s unique glance.

The workshop methodology will be based on editing. During the day, the participants can explore the city and shoot what interests them, and meet up in the evening in order to edit the day's work. The overall plan is designed according to the interests of each participant after the introductory portfolio review. In this way, other than the city itself and the local lives of the people, the focus is geared to the themes that motivate each participant, while and the outcome is shaped through an interactive process.

The participants have the opportunity to see their technique evolve and their overall approach improve day by day.
