2012 Republican National Convention

August 29, 2012
by Richard Kalvar
From August 27th to August 30th, the Republican Party held its National Convention, during which Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan were officially chosen by delegates as the party’s candidates for President and Vice President. This year’s convention was held in Tampa, Florida and had its first day cut short due to inward bound Hurricane Isaac.
During these four days dozens of Republican politicians and private citizens addressed the convention, all in support of the Romney/Paul ticket. Notable absentees were former party leaders, President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney, both of which are viewed as unpopular even amongst fellow Republicans.
Expecting large numbers of demonstrators, organizers had assembled a large force of police from all over the greater-Tampa area.
Richard Kalvar was on hand to photograph the event.
