FORMAT Festival are delighted to announce two 5 day workshops with acclaimed Magnum photographers, Olivia Arthur and Mark Power.
The workshop will provide photographers with an opportunity to develop a new body of work and improve visual, conceptual and editing skills.
Participants will spend 5 days alongside their chosen photographer, shooting projects on location in Derby and the surrounding areas. Photographers will be encouraged to make the next logical step in their photographic development, with an emphasis on visual storytelling and narration. In between self-directed shooting periods, participants will work with their Magnum tutor in a series of group critiques and one-to-one sessions, focusing on successful editing techniques. At the end of the week, both groups will produce collaborative projections, screened as part of FORMAT’s official program, in front of the festival’s extensive public and professional audience.
The workshop is aimed at all levels of photographers, from seasoned professionals through to keen amateurs, and all visual styles from journalistic to conceptual. Candidates will be expected to arrive comfortable with their equipment and ready to photograph. Each workshop is limited to just 12 participants. The participants will have their images screened at the FORMAT Portfolio Review award night on Saturday 9th March, where their work will be exposed to some of the leading photographers in the field. The slide show will also be displayed on a show reel in one of FORMAT13’s main exhibition venues throughout the duration of the festival.
