December 6, 2012
by Philippe Halsman
In the 30s , Halsman lived in Paris and studied the work of other artists and photographers, especially the surrealists.
Halsman's sympathy for surrealism also led to his long, productive friendship with Salvador Dali.
Halsman met Dali on assignment in 1941, and over the next three decades they became partners on many projects, including a series of playful tableaux that had all the disturbing irrationality of dreams or a painting by Dali.
The vintages series presented at the Magnum Gallery for this exhibition come directly from the Halsman Family linked to the exhibition “Salvador Dali” at the Centre Pomidou from the 29th of November 2012.
