Abdullah ibn Abdilaziz, King of Saudi Arabia, has died at the age of 90 from pneumonia-related illness. He came to power when his brother, King Fahd, suffered a debilitating stroke in 1995 and became king when the latter died in 2005.

Gunmen have attacked the Paris office of French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, killing 12 people and injuring seven. Four of the magazine's well-known cartoonists, including its editor-in-chief Stephane Charbonnier were reported among those killed, as well as at least two police officers. French media have named the three other cartoonists killed in the attack as Cabu, Tignous and Wolinski.

Le Monde - The World - the most prestigious French newspaper, turned 70 last December. It was created in 1944, after the liberation of France.

In 1976, photographer Abbas spent two days photographing all its activities, starting from the early morning conference where, by tradition, editors stand up. There were no computers in those days, stories were written by hand and then typed by secretaries.... More...

Magnum Photos have partnered again with The Photography Show to produce the second '30 Under 30' award for young photographers.

'30 Under 30' follows on from the successes of last year and the launch of the inaugural Photography Show at Birmingham NEC in March 2013. The competition aims to identify 30 of the best emerging documentary photographers aged 18-30 internationally.
